Antonis UndergroundObscure paths of the mind November 23 Moved to myspace.com !!!Well, it was inevitable so I finally moved to myspace. I don't think I will be updating this blog or web space any more, so please make your way to myspace and join the community there if you haven't done so already. It's much more fun and you can come in contact with many more people in a much easier way than Windows Live Spaces. Plus you have huge customization options with music and graphics of your choice and the pages load much faster.
Hope to see you there, take care!

September 19 Stou pikramenou thn aylh hlios den anatelei...Greetings my dear readers!
This blog entry deals with modern greek poetry! What an unexpected or strange subject, you might say! Well, truth is that greek poetry is not so well-known as it should be, even among greeks! And that's a terrible thing to miss since it's so beautiful and touching, soft and restless at the same time. As most poetry, it has a universal appeal and can be understood and enjoyed by anyone to a certain degree but having lived in Greece for some years gives one a deeper perception and alternative angles of viewing and understanding. But let's avoid needless mumbling and get into the juice.
The following is a small excerpt from "Amorgos", the only "official" poem by Nikos Gkatsos (or Gatsos), an amazing and very prolific poet who happens to be my favorite. Taken from the website where I found the translation: "Amorgos is the name of a rocky Greek island that Gatsos never visited. The poem, with its virtuosic use of surrealistic imagery, seems to paint the Greek soul, touching upon most major landmarks in Greek history and thought." Interestingly, it was written in one night as a stream of consciousness. I post here both the greek version and an english translation I found on the internet (which might not be the best one - I will update update the translation if I find a better one).
And the translation of the above:
For more poems and poets you can either start searching on the internet or visit your local library. To give you a starting point I will provide you with this link (I hope you can read greek):
You can start with any name but my suggestions that are my favorites are Gkatsos Nikos, Ritsos Giannis, Elytis Odysseas, Seferis Giwrgos, Kavafis Kwnstantinos and some more. You should start from them since each one is different but all were very influencial and important and played a major role in modern greek poetry.
That's it for now, keep in touch!
Antonis M. August 27 Back to normalHello again!
I'm finally back to Sweden after a wonderfull month in Greece. I will not be exagerating if I say that this holiday(s) in Greece was one of the best ever. I simply did so many things and I loved almost every day that came to pass. I was thinking about writing a small journal of what I did but I think if I write my memories down, a small part of their magic might get lost so I think I'll stay my hand. Still, I would love to hear your words, your thoughts and your memories of this summer or anything else you'd like to talk about. So until next time have fun and enjoy the last days of summer.
(A refreshed & profoundly changed) Antonis M.
P.S. I just added some pictures from this summer! Have a look and feel free to leave some comments!! Oh and sorry for the greek captions but I'm feeling to lazy to change them at the moment! July 10 Summer plans and.... stuff!Hello again!
This one is going to be simple! No complex thoughts, no dense sentences, nothing hard. Just my summer plans, nice and simple!
Soooo.... tomorrow I'm flying to Greece! Tjoohoo! I haven't been there for a long time. I was there for a couple of weeks last september but I had things to do and days disappeared really fast. Then I'm not sure but I think I went to Greece during or before easter but this must have been really short and I don't remember much!!
Anyway, time for real holidays this time! No old exams to write, just a small project report and then a big one but I'm not going to sweat over them really. I'll spend time on them only if I have nothing else to do.
My plans are as follows:
Instead of flying to Thessaloniki as usually, I will fly to Athens! There I will stay for a few days and meet my cousing George, my best friend from highschool Chrysafis & his wife & their 7-months old baby! I will also try to meet another friend Giannis and maybe some more.
Then it's back to the north, to Serres, where I will stay until the 24th with my family!
I fly to Creta early in the morning of the 24th and there I meet 3 friends of mine. We'll have some fun and relax until the 30th when I get back to Serres.
1st of august my sister comes and then maybe she and I and my cousin George and maybe our 2 cousins Antonis (2nd one) and Kostas will go somewhere all together for more holidays!!
On the 14th of august I fly back to Sweden where I will be an assistant of the organizing committee of the ICAP 2006 conference (International Conference of Pyrimidines and Arginines 2006 held at Lund University - takes 4 days). Then back to normal!!
Hehe and those are my plans and probably pretty much my summer. Don't get angry if I don't update this very often and if I appear not to check your messages.
I sincerely wish you a happy summer! Have fun!
Antonis M. July 05 Everything changes but there's nothing newHello faithful readers!
Hehe what a title line! Funny thing is that it summarizes my life pretty well at the moment. Mine and many other I suppose, I won't claim any novelties here!
Anyway, I got an interesting comment about a possible misunderstood characterization. In my last blog entry I started with "silent readers" and as someone said this was not so straightforward as I believed. Well, apparently I was referring to my perception of my readers, until then I had received only one comment ever! As always, I was optimistic, I refused to think that nobody was reading this so I took the next possible alternative, according to which there were readers but they never posted anything. Thus the "silent readers". Amazingly enough, as if that post spurred the virtual pens of the mighty, comments started coming in this last week, a thing that makes me feel much happy and willing to keep adding entries to this blog!
By the way, anyone of you need my news or troubles in your mind ? If so there's one more paragraph for you, if not thanks for reading this far & please come back next week for more! So let's see who's still here... ? Nobody? Ah ok, no news then, I'm also feeling lazy, hehe maybe when I get really serious about this blog I'll start giving out news more often. Until next time, take care and keep posting! |
